Analytics salary benchmarks
Looker is a tool rather than an occupation, so the rows below use the broader analytics roles that use it. Treat them as the market Looker skill sits inside, not as a return on any credential.
| Role / benchmark | Pay | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Data scientists | $120,230 median annual wage | May 2025 figure, with 35% projected growth to 2035. Long-range benchmark for analytics work that leans on BI tooling BLS Data Scientists |
| Computer and information technology occupations | $109,470 median annual wage | May 2025 figure, against $50,980 for all occupations. Broad benchmark for technical roles where dashboard and modelling fluency matters BLS Computer and Information Technology Occupations |

What actually exists in 2026
| Fact | Current detail | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Is there a Looker certification? | No. The current Google Cloud certification catalog lists Cloud Digital Leader, Generative AI Leader, Cloud Engineer, Google Workspace Administrator, Data Practitioner, Agentic Architect (beta), Cloud Architect, Cloud Database Engineer, Cloud Developer, Data Engineer, Cloud DevOps Engineer, Cloud Security Engineer, Cloud Network Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, and Security Operations Engineer. There is no Looker exam among them | Google Cloud certification catalog |
| What happened to the old exam URLs | looker.com/certification issues a 301 redirect into the Google Cloud certification catalog, which contains no Looker credential. The old per-credential pages return a "Page Not Found" body rather than a clean 404, which is why automated checks and prep sites still treat them as live | Google Cloud certification catalog |
| The legacy terms are still hosted | Google still publishes the Looker Certification legacy terms and conditions, with effective dates of March 30, 2020 and February 24, 2021. It describes a program that no longer runs, and it is the main artefact keeping the myth alive | Looker certification legacy terms |
| What the program used to be | Google originally launched Looker certification as two role-specific credentials, Looker Business Analyst and LookML Developer. Neither is offered today | Google Cloud Looker certification announcement |
| Where Looker training lives now | On Google Skills, which is where training.looker.com now redirects. Current Looker learning includes Get Started with Looker, BI and Analytics with Looker, Build LookML Objects in Looker, Manage Data Models in Looker, and Prepare Data for Looker Dashboards and Reports | Google Looker skill-building documentation |
| Training is not a credential | Google’s Looker skill-building documentation describes courses and learning paths but does not describe any certification or badge attached to completing them | Google Looker skill-building documentation |
| The closest live credentials | If you need a certification on paper, Google Cloud Data Practitioner is the associate-level data credential and Professional Data Engineer is the professional-level one. Neither is Looker-specific, but both sit in the data and analytics track Looker belongs to | Google Cloud certification catalog |

Questions people ask before choosing this path
Is there a Looker certification in 2026?
No. Google offers no Looker certification. The Google Cloud certification catalog contains no Looker exam, and looker.com/certification redirects into that catalog. Any site selling Looker Certified Explorer preparation is selling prep for an exam that cannot be booked.
What replaced the Looker certification?
Nothing Looker-specific. Looker now exists as training on Google Skills — courses such as Get Started with Looker, Build LookML Objects in Looker, and Manage Data Models in Looker — rather than as a credential. For a certification on paper, the closest live options are Google Cloud Data Practitioner and Professional Data Engineer.
Why do I still see Looker certification pages online?
Because Google still hosts the legacy Looker certification terms from 2020 and 2021, and the old per-credential URLs return a page body rather than a clean 404. Automated checks read those as live, so prep content keeps getting written against a program that no longer runs.
Is Looker skill still worth building without a certification?
Yes, and the missing badge matters less than it looks. No one competing for the same role has a Looker certification either, because none is available, so the comparison falls back to demonstrable work — an explore you can explain, a LookML model you can defend, a dashboard tied to a real stakeholder question.
